Jim Peek's '68 442
Here's some pictures of my 1968 442 which we have had in the family since it
was new. I was 14 years old when my dad came home from the Seattle Auto Show
in October of 1967. He said that he fell in love with a "red 442." I had
never heard of a 442 before that day. The car has been a big part of my life
ever since. I got my driver license, my first ticket and my first date in
that order in this car. It originally came as a "Turnpike Cruiser" with a
high speed rear end and a 2 barrel. I converted the manifold and carb to a 4
barrel and added the under the bumper ram air because I like the looks of
the scoops. It runs a bit faster with the extra air. It also came with a
black vinyl top. During the restoration I chose to not re-install the top to
avoid rust below the vinyl in our rainy climate. The car came with an
8-track which still works.
I can really say "this was my father's Oldsmobile" with pride.
